Saggar fired pottery is created by covering the pot in ferric chloride, sprinkling sugar on the pot, and then laying horse hair on the pot. The pot is then wrapped in aluminum foil and fired in the raku kiln. When viewing a saggar pot, one is looking at a chemical reaction of the ferric chloride to the heat. The cooler spots will be more yellow and orange, and the hotter spots will be more red and crimson.
